Your tax bill includes municipal taxes and education taxes. Only the municipal taxes are retained by the Summer Village of Waiparous to help pay for municipal services.
What types of Taxes are collected? The following charts show how much of each tax dollar goes to each type of tax.
Residential Property Assessments
Property assessment is a value placed on a property for municipal and provincial taxation purposes. The Summer Village of Waiparous assesses each property annually to distribute fair and equitable taxation. The estimated value of each property comes from the measurement, analysis and interpretation of the real estate market and is governed by the Municipal Government Act.
Before filing a complaint/appeal, please discuss your concerns with an Assessor. They may be able to correct the record or make an appointment to visit your property.
If the Assessor is unable to explain or address your concern, you can file a formal complaint with the Assessment Review Board (ARB).
All property owners are required to pay education taxes, whether they have children or not.
In order to avoid late penalties, take advantage of the many ways in which to pay your taxes on time.
Reminder notices are mailed out to property owners who have outstanding taxes, in September of each year.
The Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program is a provincial program that allows eligible senior homeowners to defer all or part of their property taxes.
If you require a tax certificate, they are available through written request submitted to our office.
